Some patients are afflicted by gastro-esophageal reflux disease or GERD. A small wireless capsule can be attached to the esophageal lining, during an upper endoscopy, to measure the acidity of lower esophageal fluid and for a minimum of 48 hours. The Bravo device monitors acid reflux events and transmits the information wirelessly to a small device which patients keep in close proximity during testing. Patients are asked to follow as typical a schedule as possible during testing and also keep a diary where they record reflux events, meal times and medication ingestion during testing. The objective data obtained by this type of monitoring is very helpful in guiding reflux therapy.
