Francis W. Chan, MD
Dr. Chan is a native of Los Altos, California and attended Brown University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology. He then moved to New York where he received his M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. From there, he moved to Connecticut where he completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital and the Yale University School of Medicine. After completing his residency, Dr. Chan spent a year as a Chief Resident in Internal Medicine before joining the Yale University School of Medicine's Department of Digestive Diseases where he completed his fellowship.
Dr. Chan joined PACT Gastroenterology Center, formerly known as GCC, in 2010 and his special interests include hepatology, gastroesophageal reflux disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and general gastrointestinal diseases.

Dean Chang, MD
Dr. Chang was born in Taipei, Taiwan. He attended Johns Hopkins University in Maryland, where he graduated with a B.A. degree in chemistry. He then received his M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan Medical School. From there, he completed his internship and residency in internal medicine and his gastroenterology fellowship at the Yale University School of Medicine.
Dr. Chang joined PACT Gastroenterology Center, formerly known as GCC, in 1999. His special interests include colon cancer, liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease and diarrheal illness.

Paul Feuerstadt MD, FACG, AGAF
Dr. Feuerstadt is a native of Long Island, New York and attended the University of Pennsylvania where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology with distinction in research. He then received his M.D. from Weill Medical College of Cornell University. From there, he completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. After completing his Internal Medicine residency, Dr. Feuerstadt joined the Montefiore Medical Center at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York where he completed his Gastroenterology fellowship.
Dr. Feuerstadt began with the PACT Gastroenterology Center, formerly known as GCC, in 2011. His special interests include C. difficile infection and other infections of the small and large bowel, fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), ischemic diseases of the gut and other diseases of the colon and small bowel including Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

Philip M. Ginsburg, MD, FACG
Dr. Ginsburg has a special interest in caring for patients with inflammatory bowel disease, which includes Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. He conducts research in the field of IBD and has authored numerous publications on the topic. Dr. Ginsburg serves as the Medical Director of IBD Research and Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center of Connecticut. He also oversees his group's infusion center where novel therapies are administered.
Dr. Ginsburg holds dual teaching appointments as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at both Yale University and Quinnipiac Schools of Medicine. He is co-chair of the medical advisory committee of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation (CT chapter), a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology, and an American Gastroenterological Association Fellow.
Dr. Ginsburg has served as a principal investigator or co-investigator in over 60 key clinical trials of novel investigational agents in IBD. He is a frequently invited speaker at symposia and seminars and has published articles in such peer reviewed journals as The American Journal of Gastroenterology and Inflammatory Bowel Diseases.
Dr. Ginsburg has been practicing since 2005. He earned his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College, and completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Chicago followed by a fellowship in Gastroenterology with a focus on Inflammatory Bowel Disease at Johns Hopkins.
Dr. Ginsburg sees patients from all over the state of CT and surrounding region. He is affiliated with Yale New Haven Hospital.

Douglas Grunwald, MD
Dr. Grunwald was born and raised in Connecticut. He attended medical school at the University of Chicago. He then completed his Internal Medicine training at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School. He stayed at Harvard for his Gastroenterology and Hepatology fellowship.
Dr. Grunwald joined PACT Gastroenterology Center, formerly known as GCC, in 2017. His clinical interests include general GI disorders, colorectal cancer prevention, IBD and GI motility.

David J. Hass, MD, FACG
Dr. Hass is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and attended Cornell University where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology. He then received his M.D. from Weill Medical College of Cornell University. From there, he completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. After completing his Internal Medicine residency, Dr. Hass joined the Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York where he completed his Gastroenterology fellowship.
Dr. Hass joined PACT Gastroenterology Center, formerly known as GCC, in 2007 and serves as Medical Director for the PACT Gastroenterology Center. He is also the Director of Endoscopy at Yale New Haven Hospital, Saint Raphael Campus. His special interests include diseases of the small bowel, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, disorders of the liver and biliary tract, pancreatic diseases and complementary and alternative therapies in the treatment of gastrointestinal and hepatic disease.

Ramnath Hebbar, MD
Dr. Hebbar trained as a medical student in Davanagere, India, and then went to the United Kingdom and trained as a postgraduate in integrated medicine. While in the United Kingdom, he was admitted to the Royal College of Physicians. He then moved to the United States and completed his medical residency at Case Western University MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Hebbar worked as an associate staff member in the Department of Hospital Medicine at the Cleveland Clinical Foundation and was a clinical assistant professor for the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. He completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at Bridgeport Hospital and trained as an interventional endoscopist at Georgetown University Hospital.
Dr. Hebbar joined PACT Gastroenterology Center, formerly known as GCC, in 2013. His special interests include gastroesophageal reflux disease, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and endoscopic ultrasound.

Tai H. Ho, MD
Dr. Ho is a native of Queens, New York. He attended New York University for his undergraduate studies, graduating summa cum laude with a B.S. in Neural Science. He continued on at the New York University School of Medicine for his doctorate in medicine. Dr. Ho remained in Manhattan where he completed his internship and residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in Internal Medicine. He went on to complete his fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Montefiore Medical Center at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.
Dr. Ho joined PACT Gastroenterology Center in 2020. His clinical interests include general GI disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, and colorectal cancer screening and prevention.

Jeffrey Kwan, MD
Dr. Kwan was born and raised in northern California. He attended Wesleyan University in Connecticut, where he earned a B.A. in Economics, then returned to the West coast to do lab research and earn a M.S. in Biological Sciences at Stanford University. He attended Dartmouth Medical School in NH for his MD. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine as well as his GI fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center. He joins GCC, now known as PACT Gastroenterology Center, after having worked as a gastroenterologist at the San Jose Medical Group, Palo Alto Medical Foundation, and Menlo Medical Clinic-Stanford Health Care.
Dr. Kwan is a general gastroenterologist who enjoys caring for patients with various types of GI and liver disease.

Karl Langberg, MD
Karl was raised in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Connecticut College as an undergraduate where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Behavioral Neuroscience. He attended Emory University in Atlanta for his MD. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine as well as his fellowship in Digestive Diseases at Yale University School of Medicine and Yale New Haven Hospital. He has also acquired additional training in Obesity Medicine from the American Board of Obesity Medicine.

Mark B. Taylor, MD, FACG
Dr. Taylor was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He attended the University of Rochester in New York, where he received a B.A. degree while completing an M.A in gerontology from the University of Chicago. He then moved to Boston, where he obtained his M.D. from Tufts University School of Medicine. From there, he completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center at the University of Chicago and his gastroenterology fellowship at Harvard Medical School’s Beth Israel Hospital.
Dr. Taylor founded Endoscopy Center of Connecticut and Gastroenterology Center of Connecticut, now known as PACT Gastroenterology Center, in 1997 with Dr. Troncale. He also served as chief of gastroenterology at Milford Hospital from 1999 to 2001. Dr. Taylor is editor-in-chief and contributing author of two major gastroenterology textbooks, titled Gastrointestinal Emergencies, which have been translated into Chinese and are still recommended as textbooks in many gastroenterology training programs.
Dr. Taylor has been a Connecticut Magazine Top Doc for 9 consecutive years and a Best Doc for 25 consecutive years. Dr. Taylor was one of the founders of Physicians Alliance of CT (PACT) and serves as Chairman of the Board of PACT.

Renuka Umashanker, MD, FACG
Dr. Umashanker was born in India and raised in New York City. She attended Hunter College in New York City, where she received B.A. degrees in Chemistry and Psychology. She then received her M.D. from the State University of New York at the Health Science Center in Brooklyn. After that, she completed her Internal Medicine Residency and Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Dr. Umashanker joined PACT Gastroenterology Center, formerly known as GCC, in 1998 and served as the Chief of Gastroenterology at Milford Hospital from 2003 to 2004. Her special interests include Colorectal Cancer Management, Women’s issues in Gastroenterology, Hepatitis C and other liver diseases, and general Gastrointestinal diseases.

Benigno R. Varela, MD
Dr. Varela is a native of Puerto Rico who attended Harvard University for his undergraduate training, graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology and a language citation in French. He then moved to Manhattan where received his Medical Doctorate from Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University. From there, he remained in New York, completing his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Following his residency, Dr. Varela joined the Montefiore Medical Center at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York where he completed his fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Dr. Varela joined PACT Gastroenterology Center, formerly known as GCC, in 2017 and his special interests include functional disorders (such as constipation, gastroparesis, and irritable bowel syndrome), liver diseases (such as hepatitis B and hepatitis C), anorectal disorders (such as anal fissures and internal hemorrhoids) and reflux disease.

Daniel M. Helburn, MD
Dr. Helburn is a native of Connecticut. He attended Brandeis University for his undergraduate studies, graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts and Science.
He went on to attend the University of Vermont College of Medicine for his Doctorate of Medicine. Dr. Helburn completed his internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. This was followed by a year as Chief Medical Resident. He subsequently completed his fellowship training in Gastroenterology at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York.
Dr. Helburn has been practicing Gastroenterology in New Haven County since 1994 and has been recognized by Connecticut Magazine as one of "Connecticut's Top Doctors". He joined PACT Gastroenterology Center in 2023. His clinical interests include colorectal cancer screening and prevention, reflux disease, functional bowel disorders and general GI disorders.
